BLB Ch. 13: 11, 12, 15, 16
The common insecticide malathion has the molecular formula C10H19O6PS2. A 750. mL container of malathion is 50.0% by mass malathion and 50.0% "inert" ingredients (essentially water). (a) If the density of the solution is 1.14 g/mL, what is the molarity of malathion in this solution? (b) When dispensed with a hose-end sprayer, this solution is diluted by a factor of 104. If 1.00 L of this diluted solution is sprayed onto an apple tree, how many moles of malathion were applied?

The label on Evian bottled water lists a magnesium concentration of 24 mg/L. What is the concentration in ppm? (Assume a density of 1.00 g/mL). What is the molarity of magnesium? [The magnesium is in solution as Mg++, of course, not magnesium metal.]

Our text does not cover this topic, so there is no reading assignment. You must work from class notes and pages posted on our Web site.
Similarly, the only assignment is a set of supplementary problems that will be posted here and handed out in class.
