The book uses the trivial names of the 3- and 4-carbon alkyl groups. This is perfectly acceptable, if you wish to memorize them. Alternatively, you may generate systematic names, as we discussed in class. Either scheme is acceptable on an examination. Here is the chart we used in class to discuss the systematic procedure:
The systematic names are shown in black, and the trivial ones are in parentheses, in blue.
Personally, I find the systematic ones easier to use - but it's your call. Just don't mix them in a single name.
