EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

*      B.Sc. in Pharmacy, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan 1989.

*      Certificate of Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy in 1993.

*      Board certified as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of New Jersey (1994) and Maine (2003).

Pharmacist-In-Charge and staff pharmacist at Sheefa Pharmacy (Paterson, NJ), Rite Aid Pharmacy (Newton, NJ and Bangor, Me), Eastern Maine Medical Center (Bangor, Me) and St. Joseph Hospital (Bangor, Me)

RESEARCH INTERESTS

*      Study of conformational changes of peptides and proteins upon complexation with mono and divalent cations.

*      Breath analysis in search of disease biomarkers.

*      Identification of disinfection by-products (DBP) in drinking water.

*      Improvement of the performance of our FT-ICR-MS by:

1.      Developing a new inlet device at the ESI side to enable the study of solution chemistry of peptides and proteins.

2.      Designing new pulsed leak valve to enable faster recovery of pressure in the ICR cell.

3.      Improving on cryofocuser at the GC side by reducing any leaks in the introduction line.

My current projects involve the (I) study of the fluorescence emission behavior of an antibacterial hexapeptide upon addition of sodium and potassium chloride, and (II) characterization of the unresolved and co-eluding DBPs from drinking water (a collaborative project involving two other members of our group).
